Ten-man Al-Ahli captured their second consecutive Asian Champions League Elite title Saturday, defeating Japan's Machida Zelvia 1-0 in extra time. Feras Al-Brikan scored the decisive goal in the 105th minute.
The Saudi Pro League club, managed by Matthias Jaissle, became only the second team to successfully defend the trophy in the competition's history. Al-Ahli played the majority of the match a man down after Zakaria Hawsawi received a red card in the 68th minute.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, the team held off Machida's advances, forcing the match into an additional 30 minutes. Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy made key saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The victory occurred in front of nearly 59,000 fans at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, which hosted the tournament's finals.
