Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch died Thursday at 41 after collapsing in a Chevrolet simulator. The racing world is in shock.

Just 24 hours before his collapse, Busch texted NASCAR CEO Steve O'Donnell with a request: "What do you think about an over-40 rule to be able to compete in all the Truck Series races next year?"

O'Donnell recalled the text during a press conference Friday, saying it reflects Busch's constant drive to improve the sport. That text addressed the so-called "Kyle Busch Rule," which limits Cup Series drivers from competing in too many Truck Series races.

Busch, a future Hall of Famer, made 762 Cup starts with 63 wins. He won championships in 2015 and 2019. His final win came just eight days ago at Dover in the Truck Series.

He is survived by his wife Samantha and their two children.
