Double Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge is set to compete in his first marathon on African soil in Cape Town on May 24. This event marks the beginning of his ambitious two-year quest to run a marathon on all seven continents.
The 41-year-old Kenyan's participation adds significant prestige to the Cape Town Marathon, which is vying for Abbott World Marathon Majors status. Success in 2026 would place it among elite global races like London and New York.
Kipchoge stated, "Africa is where my journey as a runner began and where the foundation of my success is deeply rooted. To start this World Tour in Cape Town is very special. It is about celebrating the strength of African running and inspiring the next generation."
