Legendary college football coach Lou Holtz has died at the age of 89. Prominent Republican lawmakers and officials, including Sens. Tommy Tuberville and Lindsey Graham, Rep. Greg Murphy, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon, have shared their condolences. Holtz led teams for 33 years, most notably capturing the 1988 National Championship with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He is the first coach in NCAA history to lead six different programs to bowl games. Holtz, a Hall of Famer, was a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, who awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2020. Holtz finished his coaching career with a 249-132-7 record.
