Bo Bichette, who signed a $126 million deal with the New York Mets in the offseason, endured a rough start to the 2026 season.
The two-time All-Star went 1-for-14 with one RBI and led the National League in strikeouts over the first three games against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Despite New York winning two of three, Bichette faced vocal criticism from fans at Citi Field.
“If anything, I thought it took too long,” he said. “I thought my at-bats were terrible, too.”
Adjusting to a new role, Bichette has moved from shortstop to third base following Francisco Lindor’s presence as the team’s regular shortstop. He recorded four putouts and one error in his early outings.
The Mets head west for a seven-game road trip starting Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals, where Bichette holds a .351 batting average across eight career games.
