Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been fined £80,000 and issued a warning by the Football Association for comments made to the media following his team's 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur. The FA alleged Rodri acted improperly in post-match interviews, questioning the integrity of match officials.
The incident stemmed from Rodri's frustration after Dominic Solanke's goal was allowed to stand, despite a challenge on City defender Marc Guehi that Rodri felt should have been a foul. Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviewed the play and determined no offense occurred.
Rodri, who was also identified as the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, expressed his disappointment with referee Robert Jones, stating, "I know we won too much and the people don't want us to win, but the referee has to be neutral. It's not fair because we work so hard."
Manchester City currently sits second in the Premier League standings, seven points behind leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.
