Mikaela Shiffrin secured her record-tying sixth women's overall World Cup skiing title on Wednesday in Norway, holding off a challenge from German rival Emma Aicher. Shiffrin, 31, needed only to finish in the top 15 of a giant slalom, which she did before Aicher even began her second run.

This achievement matches the record set by Austrian downhill great Annemarie Moser-Pröll in the 1970s. Shiffrin has won three consecutive titles from 2017-19 and back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. Lindsey Vonn holds third place with four overall titles.

Shiffrin’s season has been stellar, including a third Olympic gold medal in the slalom at the Milan Cortina Games. She also won nine of the 10 World Cup slaloms this season and holds a record 110 victories across all disciplines, far surpassing Ingemar Stenmark's 86 wins.
