The Ontario Hockey League has fined the Barrie Colts $15,000 for conduct deemed detrimental to the league’s reputation. The penalty stems from a post-game press conference following the team’s conference final victory over Brantford, which went viral for its terse and unprofessional tone.
The OHL announced the fine Wednesday, hours before Game 1 of the league final in Kitchener. After beating the Bulldogs 5-0 in Game 7, Barrie head coach Dylan Smoskowitz and captain Kashawn Aitcheson answered every question with the motto “no one cares, work harder.”
The league called the conduct unprofessional and disrespectful to media. Smoskowitz later apologized on TSN, explaining he chose the approach after learning the team would not all be able to attend.
