Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong apologized Monday for using vulgar language toward a fan during Sunday's loss to the Chicago White Sox.

Crow-Armstrong crashed into the outfield wall in the fifth inning. As he sat on the ground, a female fan heckled him. The 24-year-old responded with an expletive-laden outburst, captured on camera.

"I regret my choice of words the most and who that affects in my life," Crow-Armstrong said. He acknowledged the cameras were rolling. "I'm definitely aware of the fact that it has blown up."

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Crow-Armstrong made a mistake. "You want to try and keep fan interactions positive even when they're not," Counsell added.

Major League Baseball is not investigating the incident. Crow-Armstrong said he will focus on "killing someone with kindness instead of matching their level of intent."

The 24-year-old is in his third season with the Cubs and is considered a key part of the franchise's future.
