Six-time PGA Tour winner Max Homa has openly discussed managing a chronic skin condition known as seborrheic dermatitis, or seb derm. Homa has dealt with the condition, which causes redness and flaking, since high school.
Initially experiencing what he thought was dandruff, Homa found over-the-counter treatments provided only temporary relief. As the condition progressed to facial redness and discomfort in his beard, he sought professional help, crediting his wife for encouraging him to see a dermatologist.
Homa, who partnered with Arcutis for their "Free to Be Me" campaign, aims to encourage others to address their skin concerns. He highlighted that many, particularly men, often delay seeking medical advice for such issues.
Dr. Tina Bhutani, a dermatologist, noted that seb derm affects millions of Americans, commonly appearing on the scalp, face, and other areas, significantly impacting quality of life if untreated.
Homa is now using Zoryve (reflumilast) foam, a daily steroid-free treatment for itching and redness. He emphasizes that the most challenging aspect was simply seeking professional consultation, and the treatment has brought him significant peace of mind.
Homa's career highlights include multiple wins at the Wells Fargo Championship and Fortinet Championship, as well as victories at the Genesis Invitational and Farmers Insurance Open.
