Phil Mickelson will not compete in the Masters Tournament next week, joining Tiger Woods as the second golf legend to sit out the signature event at Augusta National.

Mickelson announced his withdrawal Thursday, stating he will be "out for an extended period of time" as his family navigates a personal health matter.

Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley said Mickelson will be missed and offered the club's complete support. Mickelson had already missed several LIV Golf events this year for the same reason.

Tiger Woods, a five-time Masters champion, recently stepped away from golf to seek treatment following a DUI arrest and car crash. The absence of these two icons marks a significant shift for the 90th edition of the Masters, which begins Thursday, April 9.
