Richard Childress Racing has announced it will retire Kyle Busch's No. 8 car, keeping it reserved for his son, Brexton Busch, when he is ready to enter NASCAR.

Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, died suddenly at 41 after collapsing at a race simulator in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was admitted to the hospital and initially ruled out of the Coca-Cola 600 before news of his death broke hours later.

In a statement, RCR said the No. 8-designed by Busch himself-has become synonymous with the driver and no one else can carry it to his level. The team will field the No. 33 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and beyond.

This mirrors RCR's move after Dale Earnhardt's death in 2001, when they retired the No. 3 before bringing it back for Austin Dillon in 2014.
