Russia has captured its first gold medal at the Paralympics since its controversial return. Skier Varvara Voronchikhina won the women's Super-G standing race in Cortina d'Ampezzo.

Russia and Belarus were readmitted to Paralympic competitions by the International Paralympic Committee in September, after being banned following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. This decision sparked outrage and boycotts during the opening ceremony.

Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev congratulated Voronchikhina, stating, "The Russian national anthem is playing." Voronchikhina, 23, had previously won bronze in the women's downhill standing event.
