Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva, ranked eighth, defeated 114th-ranked Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 at the French Open on Saturday to claim her first Grand Slam title.

At 19, Andreeva is the youngest women's singles champion at Roland Garros since Monica Seles, who was 18 in 1992. Andreeva has been competing under neutral status due to the war in Ukraine. In the semifinals, Ukrainian opponent Marta Kostyuk refused to shake her hand, a practice observed since 2022.

Polish flags and chants filled Court Philippe-Chatrier, but Chwalinska could not overcome Andreeva's power. Andreeva fell to her knees after a backhand cross-court winner sealed the match. Her coach, Conchita Martinez, lost the 2000 French Open final to Mary Pierce, who presented the trophy.
