AUGUSTA, Georgia - Rory McIlroy's dramatic Masters victory on Sunday was underscored by intense physiological data from his WHOOP wearable. The Northern Irishman's heart rate soared to 135 beats per minute after a crucial tee shot on the 18th hole found pine needles, placing his lead in jeopardy.
As McIlroy navigated the challenging situation, his heart rate fluctuated: dropping to 121 bpm for a recovery shot that landed in the greenside bunker, then spiking again to 136 bpm before his bunker shot. He ultimately blasted out to within 12 feet.
The data showed his heart rate steadily declined, reaching 117 bpm on his first putt and a low of 105 bpm on the winning putt. Post-victory, as he celebrated his repeat Masters title, his heart rate reached 150 bpm.
McIlroy, a six-time major champion, recently became an investor in the fitness wearable company WHOOP.
