On a historic night, Mark Scheifele scored twice, passing Thomas Steen for most NHL games played in a Winnipeg Jets uniform. His 33rd and 34th goals of the season brought the Jets within a point of Colorado, but it wasn't enough.
Jack Drury tied the game, and Nazem Kadri's deflection gave Colorado the lead. Despite a late comeback by Scheifele, Nathan MacKinnon sealed the victory with his 47th goal of the season. The Jets now sit five points behind the playoff cutoff.
With 32 saves, Connor Hellebuyck couldn't overcome a dominant third period from Colorado, who outshot the Jets 35-24 overall.
The Jets will have another chance against the Avalanche this Saturday in Denver.
