Serena Williams is back on the court. At 44, the 23-time Grand Slam champion will compete in the Queen's Club Championships doubles tournament on Tuesday. Her partner: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko, 25 years her junior.
Williams made it clear this isn't about adding to her trophy case. "I don't need to win. I've won more than most people have in their whole lives," she said Sunday. "I don't have anything to prove. I don't have anything to lose."
The American tennis legend hasn't played competitively in nearly four years. She told reporters in London that a conversation about "having fun" sparked her return. She hasn't decided if she'll play singles again.
Williams and Mboko face American Nicole Melichar-Martinez and New Zealand's Erin Routliffe in the opening round.
