India’s One-Day International captain Shubman Gill says winning the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup is the team’s ultimate goal. The tournament runs October-November across South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

India fell short in the 2023 final against Australia in Ahmedabad - a loss that still motivates the squad.

Gill spoke at the BCCI’s awards ceremony Sunday night: “We felt like we were so close last time. To get another crack at it in South Africa is a great opportunity.”

T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav linked India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win to broader momentum - including the men’s Champions Trophy and women’s ODI World Cup victories last year. “That taste was important,” he said. “Now, there is no looking back.”
