St. John’s is headed to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1999 after a heart-stopping finish against Kansas in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

With four seconds left and the game tied, guard Dylan Darling drove past Kansas defender Elmarko Jackson and converted a buzzer-beating layup-the only points of his night. He also contributed four assists and two steals.

The No. 4-seeded Red Storm led by 10 with 6:36 remaining, but turnovers and missed shots let the No. 5-seeded Jayhawks claw back. Kansas star Darryn Peterson tied the game with two free throws at the 13-second mark.

Zuby Ejofor and Bryce Hopkins each scored 18 points to lead St. John’s. Peterson finished with 21 for Kansas, while Melvin Council Jr. added 15 and Flory Bidunga had 12.

This marks Kansas’s fourth consecutive second-round exit from the tournament.
