Scotland achieved their first World Cup victory in 36 years, defeating Haiti 1-0 at Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

John McGinn’s deflected strike in the 28th minute secured the win, ending a tournament drought that stretched back to 1990. The victory puts Scotland at the top of Group C in the newly expanded 48-team competition.

Europe has stumbled out of the gate. Only two of the continent’s seven teams have managed a win in their opening fixtures. For Scotland, the result provides a critical platform in a tournament where they hadn't even qualified since 1998.
