Spain's national football team celebrated the country's second World Cup win with a victory parade through Madrid on Monday. An estimated two million people packed the streets of the capital, many wearing the national jersey and waving flags, to see the players pass on an open-top bus emblazoned with 'Kings of the World'.
The celebration followed Spain's 1-0 victory over Argentina in Sunday's final held in New Jersey. Players wearing "We are champions" t-shirts waved to the massive crowds and threw footballs into the stands. Some, like forward Borja Iglesias, played music from a DJ set on top of the bus.
Prior to the parade, the team was greeted by Spanish King Felipe and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, both of whom had attended the final. Sanchez congratulated the squad on their "playing style, effort and victory" and expressed hope for a third World Cup title at the 2030 tournament, which Spain will co-host with Portugal and Morocco.
