SANTA CLARA, California - United States coach Mauricio Pochettino is downplaying his team's status as favourites heading into their World Cup round-of-32 match against Bosnia.
The caution comes after a string of tournament upsets, including Germany's penalty shootout loss to Paraguay and Morocco eliminating the Netherlands.
"I don't believe that we are the favourite team because... the last few days we have seen how difficult it is for everyone," Pochettino told reporters at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.
The US topped Group D with wins over Paraguay and Australia. Bosnia finished third in their group.
Star player Christian Pulisic declared himself fit to start. Defender Mark McKenzie is doubtful with a foot injury, while left back Auston Trusty's ankle injury is improving.
"For us, this is the final of the World Cup tomorrow," Pochettino said, demanding his team respect Bosnia's quality and organization.
The winner will face either Senegal or Belgium in the next round.
