Three-time Italian Open champion Iga Swiatek delivered a masterclass performance on Wednesday, overpowering fifth-seeded American Jessica Pegula 6-1, 6-2 to reach the semifinals in Rome.

The Polish star, currently ranked fourth in the world, carried momentum from her previous round victory over Naomi Osaka. Swiatek opened with a 5-0 lead, conceding just three games total while hitting 15 winners to Pegula's six.

This win marks Swiatek's first victory over a top-10 opponent this year. She credited recent work with Francisco Roig, former coach of Rafael Nadal, for her improved form.

"I feel much better," Swiatek said. "I have a lot of confidence in my shots."

The 24-year-old is looking to capture her first clay-court title since the 2024 French Open. With world number one Aryna Sabalenka eliminated earlier in the tournament, Swiatek's path has opened significantly ahead of Roland Garros, which begins May 24.

Swiatek will face the winner of the match between Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina and Ukrainian seventh seed Elina Svitolina.
