In a groundbreaking moment for athletics, Kenyan runner Sabastian Sawe has become the first person in history to complete a marathon in under two hours. Sawe crossed the finish line with an astonishing time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 30 seconds, setting a new men's world record by a significant margin.

Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha also achieved a sub-two-hour finish, placing second at 1:59:41. Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo secured third place, breaking the previous world-record time with 2:00:28.

Sawe, 29, made a decisive solo break in the final two kilometers of the race. "What comes today is not for me alone, but for all of us today in London," Sawe stated after his historic victory.

In the women's division, Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa defended her title, winning the fastest women's-only marathon in 2:15:41.

Switzerland's Marcel Hug continued his dominance in the men's wheelchair race, securing his eighth title, while compatriot Catherine Debrunner won the women's wheelchair race.
