Audrey Werro believes the longest-standing women's track record is within reach.

The 22-year-old Swiss runner won the women's 800 meters at the Paris Diamond League on Sunday, crossing the finish line in 1 minute and 53.80 seconds. The time bettered her previous personal best of 1:53.98 set earlier this month in Stockholm.

She is now the first woman to break the 1:54 barrier on two separate occasions.

The current world record of 1:53.28 was set by Czech runner Jarmila Kratochvilova in 1983, making it the oldest standing record in outdoor track.

"I think the world record will go when I am in a race with another quick athlete," Werro said, specifically citing Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, who was absent from the Paris field.

Werro noted she was slightly behind pace at the 600-meter mark and plans to stick closer to the pacing lights in her next attempt. With both Werro and Hodgkinson targeting the historic mark, the 43-year-old record appears increasingly vulnerable.
