Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on Tuesday, leaving them still in danger of relegation from the Premier League ahead of their final match of the season.
Goals from Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos either side of halftime secured the win for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Fernandez opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a powerful long-range strike. Santos doubled the lead in the 67th minute after a deft assist from Fernandez.
Richarlison pulled one back for Spurs in the 74th minute, but the visitors could not find an equalizer. Spurs remain only two points above West Ham, who currently hold the last relegation spot. Despite the narrow margin, Tottenham's superior goal difference means a draw against Everton at home on Sunday would likely secure their Premier League status.
Chelsea, fresh off announcing Xabi Alonso as their new manager, climbed to eighth place with the win. The Blues are still smarting from their FA Cup final loss to Manchester City.
