MIAMI, March 20 - Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek vowed to simplify her game after a stunning 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 loss to world No. 50 Magda Linette at the Miami Open-her first opening-round exit in 74 WTA tournaments.
The world No. 3 breezed through the first set but unraveled tactically in the final two, marking her earliest loss since the 2021 WTA Finals.
"Tennis feels complicated in my head," Swiatek told reporters. "I know it's supposed to be simple... I haven't felt things like that for five years."
Linette, 34, downplayed the upset: "Iga sets such a high standard... It was an amazing win for me, but I don't want to comment in a way that could put her down."
She advances to face Alexandra Eala next.
