President Donald Trump praised New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart over the weekend, calling him a 'handsome guy' and a potential star-this after the second-year QB faced criticism from his own teammates for introducing Trump at a political event.
'First of all, I wished I looked just like Jaxson,' Trump said during an interview. 'I said, "Is he a male model?" He’s a handsome guy, like a beautiful guy, conservative guy. He said, "I love you, sir."'
Trump spoke at Rockland Community College in Suffern, N.Y., on May 22, highlighting his economic record in the district of Rep. Mike Lawler, who faces reelection.
The president also noted Dart's on-field potential: 'He really moves the team. Tremendous potential. If he stays healthy, he’s gonna be great.'
Dart's decision drew fire from Giants linebacker Abdul Carter, who said Friday: 'Some things are bigger than football... If he chooses to align himself with a man like President Trump, it's my responsibility to show the world that I'm against that.'
Dart defended himself, citing his family's military and government service. 'The president position has always been a position that I've well respected, regardless of political affiliation,' the quarterback said.
The rift underscores how political involvement is increasingly affecting NFL locker rooms, with the 2026 season poised to be a pivotal one for both Dart and the Giants.
