Jonathan Trott concluded his tenure as Afghanistan's coach with a victory, but remains uncertain about his next steps. However, he stated he would welcome the opportunity to coach the England cricket team.

Afghanistan's recent T20 World Cup campaign ended with two wins, failing to progress to the Super Eight stage. Trott, who took over the Afghanistan coaching role in July 2022, reflected on his time.

"I don't know what the future holds. Maybe I have a couple of days off and see how it goes," Trott commented.

Trott represented England in 127 matches between 2009 and 2015, including three Ashes series wins. He expressed a desire to coach the team he holds "so dear to your heart."

"I'd love to one day hopefully have the opportunity to coach a team that you hold so dear to your heart," the former batsman said. "There are a lot of people that I'm sure would love to do that job. We'll have to see. I just want to enjoy my coaching and I've certainly enjoyed the last couple of years here."

Under Trott, Afghanistan reached their first T20 World Cup semi-final in 2024 and narrowly missed the 50-overs World Cup semi-finals in 2023.
