Former England wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor will make history as the first female coach to work with the men's senior team, appointed fielding coach for next month's three-test series against New Zealand.

The 36-year-old, a World Cup winner in 2009, retired from international cricket in 2019 after 226 appearances. Since then, she has coached for county side Sussex and the England Lions.

Taylor replaces Carl Hopkinson on a short-term basis while he works with IPL side Mumbai Indians.

England director of cricket Rob Key praised Taylor, saying the team has been thoroughly impressed with her approach. He called her one of the best in the business, noting she has worked closely with Andrew Flintoff and performance director Ed Barney.

England also reshaped their squad for the first test at Lord's starting June 4, dropping opener Zak Crawley and selecting Emilio Gay as Ben Duckett's likely opening partner.
