Tensions ran high as Team USA faced Canada for Olympic gold in men's ice hockey. Forward Matt Boldy ignited the crowd early, receiving the puck centrally and splitting Canadian defenders Devon Toews and Cale Makar with a skillful maneuver.

Boldy then pulled the puck back, sliding it past Canadian goaltender Jordan Binnington for the game's first score on Team USA's initial shot. Assists were credited to Auston Matthews and Quinn Hughes, sending the Milan crowd into a frenzy.

The U.S. held a 1-0 lead after the first period. Boldy, a Minnesota Wild player in the NHL, made his Olympic debut, having previously competed in the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Canada played shorthanded in the final, notably without Sidney Crosby, who was sidelined due to a lower-body injury sustained earlier in the Olympics.
