The United Football League (UFL) is introducing sweeping rule changes for its 2026 season, aimed at increasing scoring and excitement. The most notable alteration allows for a four-point field goal on successful kicks of 60 yards or longer.
Head of officiating Dean Blandino stated the league wants to "create an exciting game. We want good flow. We want big plays. We want to promote scoring." In addition to the enhanced field goal, teams will be prohibited from punting inside the opponent's 50-yard line, with an exception made after the two-minute warning in either half.
The league is also banning the "tush push" short-yardage play. Kickoffs will now commence from the 30-yard line.
These strategic shifts are designed to elevate the game's intensity and encourage more dynamic plays. The 2026 UFL season is scheduled to begin on March 27.
