Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is demanding clarity from the Whitecaps FC ownership regarding the team's potential relocation. Sim has called on the club to publicly articulate their needs to remain in Vancouver and urged the British Columbia provincial government to actively participate in finding a solution.
The MLS club cited stadium economics, venue access, and revenue limitations as challenges that have hindered attracting buyers committed to keeping the team in Vancouver for the past 16 months.
Mayor Sim proposed a "bridge deal" with the provincial government, which owns BC Place, to ensure the venue's viability while a new stadium is considered. He emphasized that losing the Whitecaps, a team with a long history in Vancouver and a strong current performance in the MLS Western Conference, is unacceptable.
