Melbourne's Federation Square will once again screen World Cup matches after the government intervened to reverse a venue decision to stop the broadcasts.

Venue management had announced they would no longer show matches on the "Big Screen" following incidents of poor fan behavior, including flare injuries and barricade storming during the 2023 Women's World Cup semi-final.

Premier Jacinta Allan overturned the ban, stating, “I disagree with that decision - and I am overturning it.” She emphasized that police and security would enforce a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct.

Australia is set to play Turkey, Paraguay, and the United States in the upcoming World Cup from June 11 to July 19.
