Three-time Olympic gold medalist Max Whitlock has withdrawn from the upcoming Commonwealth Games due to a hand injury sustained in training.

The 33-year-old Englishman came out of retirement late last year with the goal of competing at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Whitlock won his three Olympic titles at the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Games.

In a statement, Whitlock said he was "incredibly disappointed" but that the injury required him to withdraw. He pledged to focus on recovery and supporting his teammates.

The Commonwealth Games are scheduled to be held in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2.
