Emails obtained by Fox News show a former Yale administrator informed Thomas Newman's lawyer that a meeting was recorded without university knowledge. Newman's attorney alleged the recording was used against him, violating Connecticut law requiring all-party consent for recordings.
A separate email from Newman's lawyers accused Yale officials of withholding the recording and using it to undermine his leadership. The emails also cited Connecticut statutes criminalizing non-consensual recordings and Yale's own policies against surreptitious recording.
Newman left Yale in 2021 after five years as strength and conditioning coach. A former player claimed injuries occurred under new coaching staff, unlike Newman's program.
Former Yale ice hockey coach Keith Allain wrote a letter to Yale President Maurine McInnis, calling Athletic Director Vicky Chun the 'worst leader' and alleging a culture of fear and silencing dissent.
Yale has not been officially implicated in any illegal activity, and no current or former administrators have been named in legal violations.
