The New York Yankees made MLB history with a 7-0 shutout victory over the San Francisco Giants on Opening Day-despite reigning two-time AL MVP Aaron Judge striking out four times and finishing 0-for-5.

Judge, who grew up in Linden, California and once drew interest from the Giants during free agency, struck out swinging, looking, and via foul tip across four at-bats. It marked his first hitless Opening Day performance.

Trent Grisham and Ryan McMahon each drove in two runs, while starter Max Fried allowed just two hits over his outing. The Yankees became the first team in MLB history to post a shutout win with their reigning MVP striking out four or more times in the same game.

Manager Aaron Boone praised the team’s collective pressure at the plate: “A night we didn't hit the ball out of the ballpark but just a lot of good pressurized at-bats.”

Judge, now a three-time AL MVP, re-signed with New York in 2024 on a nine-year, $360 million deal-passing on a potential homecoming with San Francisco.
