The Artemis II mission has returned exceptional, high-quality photographs of the Moon. During their lunar flyby, the spacecraft approached within 4,067 miles (6,545 km) of the Moon's surface.

Astronauts documented the lunar surface, capturing views of the Moon's terminator and the transition of sunlight. Pilot Victor Glover described the sights as "unreal," noting the detail visible from Earthshine.

These images, reminiscent of the iconic Apollo 8 "Earthrise," represent the highest resolution yet of such phenomena, hinting at increased future human presence on the Moon.

The Artemis II mission is now en route back to Earth, with splashdown scheduled off the coast of California.
