Amsterdam - Axelera AI has announced a significant funding round, securing an additional $250 million. The investment, led by Innovation Industries with participation from new investors BlackRock and SiteGround Capital, positions Axelera as a major player in European AI chipmaking.

The company plans to utilize the substantial capital to scale manufacturing of its "Europa" chip, slated for launch before June. Further investment will target software development, aimed at simplifying the integration of their specialized chips for customers.

Based in Eindhoven, Netherlands, Axelera AI focuses on energy-efficient inference chips designed for industrial AI applications, distinct from training models. Since its inception in 2021, the firm has now raised over $450 million.

Existing backers, including Bitfury and Samsung Electronics' Catalyst Fund, also contributed to this latest funding round. Axelera is also developing an advanced chip, codenamed "Titania," for supercomputing centers, with a projected release in 2027.
