AMD has acquired MEXT, a startup that uses predictive AI to make flash storage emulate expensive DRAM. The deal, announced June 15, 2026, targets the "memory wall"-the growing speed gap between processors and memory that limits how large AI models can scale.

MEXT's software intelligently predicts which data requires fast access, shuttling it between low-cost flash and high-speed DRAM. This reduces total cost of ownership for cloud and enterprise customers facing soaring DRAM expenses.

AMD will integrate MEXT’s technology across its entire CPU and GPU portfolio, from data-center processors to AI accelerators. The company’s stock rose on the news, with analysts viewing the acquisition as a strategic move to strengthen AMD’s AI infrastructure capabilities.
