Apple is urging iPhone users to update their devices following the discovery of a new spyware threat targeting older iOS versions. This sophisticated malware, known as Darksword, could potentially affect hundreds of millions of users and is capable of stealing sensitive information including emails, photos, and cryptocurrency wallets.
Cybersecurity firms Lookout, iVerify, and Alphabet’s Google have identified the malware as targeting specific groups, including Ukrainians, Chinese cryptocurrency users, and individuals in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Malaysia.
Apple spokesperson Sarah O'Rourke emphasized the importance of keeping software updated to maintain security. 'The single most important thing users can do to secure their Apple devices is to keep their software up to date,' she stated.
Apple recently released a special update for older devices that cannot upgrade to the latest iOS 26, which includes protections against these threats.
