The 2027 BMW i3 marks the German automaker’s first all-electric version of its iconic 3 Series sedan, set for production in Munich this August. Built on the new Neue Klasse platform, the i3 delivers a radical evolution in design, efficiency, and performance.
The exterior retains much of the Neue Klasse concept's styling, featuring a light-based kidney grille and streamlined hood. The rear deck was raised slightly for practical cargo space, diverging from the concept's sleeker lines. A wagon variant, known as Touring, is expected but not yet confirmed for US markets.
Inside, the cabin mirrors the iX3 with physical buttons, a trapezoidal infotainment screen, and an AI assistant powered by Alexa. Rear passengers benefit from elevated seating and ample legroom due to the EV architecture.
Under the hood, the i3 50 xDrive uses BMW’s 6th-gen powertrain with an 800V system, 463 hp, and up to 440 miles of range. It supports 400 kW DC fast charging and incorporates 30% recycled materials for sustainability.
Driving dynamics remain core to the 3 Series identity. With near 50:50 weight distribution, software-controlled torque delivery, and regenerative braking handling 95% of stops, BMW promises a dynamic and engaging drive.
An advanced driver-assist system compliant with UN R171 allows hands-off driving in select conditions, including full stop-and-go functionality. Remote parking via smartphone app is also featured.
Pricing and official EPA range will be announced closer to summer.
