Authorities from Germany, the United States, and Canada announced a joint operation dismantling two massive botnet networks, Aisuru and Kimwolf, on Friday. Officials warn these networks posed significant threats to global IT infrastructure.
Aisuru controlled several million compromised devices, including routers and webcams, while Kimwolf infected primarily Android TV boxes. Both networks utilized distributed denial-of-service attacks, flooding targets with traffic to cripple operations.
According to the US Department of Justice, these groups conducted record-breaking attacks and sold access to criminals who extorted victims, causing losses exceeding tens of thousands of dollars. Two suspected administrators have been identified and face legal consequences.
