A Chinese court has sentenced a blogger to 20 months in prison for fabricating a safety video about Xiaomi's SU7 electric sedan.

Blogger Gao was found guilty by the Haidian District People's Court of damaging the reputation of goods by fabricating false facts. He was also fined 100,000 yuan.

The case stems from a viral video posted in August 2024. The clip, viewed roughly 3 million times, appeared to show the SU7's doors failing to open after a crash and its emergency systems not activating.

The court determined Gao and his team had covertly tampered with the car's battery before filming. This is part of a wider Chinese crackdown on misinformation within the competitive auto industry.
