AMSTERDAM, April 2 - A handbag crafted from collagen extracted from Tyrannosaurus rex fossils has been unveiled at Amsterdam’s Art Zoo museum. The teal-colored bag, set to be auctioned for over half a million dollars, represents a breakthrough in lab-grown leather.

Developed by The Organoid Company, Lab-Grown Leather Ltd., and VML, the material uses ancient protein fragments inserted into animal cells to produce collagen. This marks a major leap in sustainable fashion technology.

Critics, including paleontologists, question whether true T. rex skin could be replicated. However, project leaders argue it’s the closest anyone has come to creating authentic "T. rex leather."

The project also follows previous collaborations between these firms, such as their 2023 mammoth-inspired meatball.
