Imec, often dubbed the 'chip lab of the world,' connects universities and industry to develop next-generation semiconductor technology. Max Mirgoli, imec's Chief Global Development Officer, emphasized the critical role of semiconductors in modern devices, AI, and addressing challenges like data center power consumption. "Semiconductors are the bread of the modern world," Mirgoli stated, highlighting the increasing race for skilled professionals.
Beyond research, imec actively supports deep-tech startups through funding and mentorship. The organization has closed two significant venture funds, totaling over €500 million, and is preparing for a third fund targeting €1 billion to back transformative companies in life sciences, computing, and communications.
The new Doha hub, located at the Qatar Science and Technology Park, signifies imec's commitment to strengthening the regional semiconductor ecosystem and promoting innovation across the Middle East.
