Prominent computer scientist Fei-Fei Li's World Labs has secured $1 billion in a new funding round, accelerating its mission to advance "spatial intelligence." The startup aims to develop AI capable of reasoning about the 3D world, moving beyond traditional 2D data. Investors in this significant round include major technology and investment firms such as AMD, Nvidia, Autodesk, Emerson Collective, and Fidelity Management & Research Company. Autodesk alone invested $200 million and will advise the startup.

Spatial intelligence is a novel AI approach that enables systems to understand and interact with the 3D environment. World Labs' foundational models are designed to perceive, generate, and manipulate 3D worlds. Fei-Fei Li, widely recognized as a leading figure in AI, previously launched World Labs in September 2024 with $230 million in funding.

This initiative places World Labs alongside other leading AI research efforts, including Google DeepMind, in developing "world models." These models process real-world visual data to enable advanced reasoning and simulation capabilities, with potential applications in augmented reality, virtual reality, and robotics.
