Google Maps is introducing a significant upgrade with the "Ask Maps" feature, powered by Gemini AI. This allows users to ask complex, conversational questions for more detailed navigation and planning.

Users can now ask for specific needs, like finding a charging station without long waits or planning stops on a road trip. Ask Maps provides personalized suggestions based on user history and preferences, even accommodating requests for specific dining scenarios.

This AI-driven feature is rolling out in the U.S. and India on Android and iOS, with desktop access coming soon.

Alongside "Ask Maps," Google Maps unveils "Immersive Navigation." This 3D view enhances the driving experience by displaying real-world details like buildings, traffic lights, and lane information.

The update also includes smart zooms, transparent building overlays for complex turns, and more natural voice guidance. Users can compare alternative routes, receive real-time alerts for disruptions, and even get parking tips upon arrival, utilizing Street View imagery.
