Google Maps is launching its biggest navigation update in over a decade, dubbed Immersive Navigation. This new feature offers a 3D view designed to more accurately represent real-world surroundings. Leveraging Gemini AI models, it incorporates detailed overpasses, crosswalks, landmarks, and signage, all derived from Street View and aerial photography.

The update aims to enhance usability by providing drivers with clearer route previews and advanced notice of upcoming turns. Voice guidance will also offer foresight into subsequent maneuvers. Immersive Navigation will highlight tradeoffs between route options, such as traffic conditions or toll avoidance, allowing users to make informed choices.

Upon reaching a destination, users will benefit from Street View imagery, building entrance details, and parking information for easier orientation. Immersive Navigation begins rolling out today on Android and iOS, with wider availability expected over the coming months.
