Hyundai Motor Group is set to become the sole owner of Boston Dynamics. The South Korean automaker will acquire SoftBank Group’s remaining 9.65% stake for $325 million, securing complete control of the robotics leader.

This transaction implies a valuation of approximately $3.4 billion, more than tripling the company's value since Hyundai acquired an 80% controlling interest in 2020. The buyout fulfills a put option established during that initial agreement.

Full ownership arrives at a critical juncture. Boston Dynamics plans to begin commercial production of its Atlas humanoid robot in 2026. Initial units are designated for Hyundai facilities and Google DeepMind, signaling a shift from engineering demonstrations to industrial utility.

Eliminating minority stakeholder oversight allows Hyundai to execute this transition without external friction. The deal signals that the automaker views Boston Dynamics as a core strategic asset rather than a speculative holding.

However, significant execution risks remain. Scaling humanoid manufacturing is an unproven challenge. Hyundai’s total investment now exceeds $1.2 billion, placing substantial pressure on Boston Dynamics to meet production timelines and deliver commercial viability.
